With over an impressive 45-year career, Mr. Rogell has held numerous positions that have contributed greatly to the success of the company. Being known as a hard worker by three generational mentors, Mr. Rogell was hired into the Shipping Department in 1976 for then, Regency Electronics, for a staggering $2.65 an hour.

From there, he transitioned to the Maintenance Department where he was provided with his first leadership opportunity. Mr. Rogell and his team saved the company thousands in operational and maintenance costs by performing almost all repairs in house – from electrical, roofing, air conditioning, and remodeling efforts.

Through his steadfast, empathetic leadership, Mr. Rogell was awarded additional responsibility leading Automatic Insertion, Surface Mount Devices, contract manufacturing, Automatic Test Equipment, and the Maintenance and Facilities shops. From there he became Production Manager for Board assembly, overseeing the fine efforts of hundreds of employees.

Additionally, Mr. Rogell was onboard for 3 major facility moves, playing a key role in each one. In the last move, he was able to minimize factory shut down to a single day, with additional cost savings. It is from these moves, and the subsequent selling of excess manufacturing equipment, that Mr. Rogell’s talent in the art of selling and closing deals was recognized. After earning a prestigious sales position, Mr. Rogell has become one of the most reliable and self-driven sales force for the company and has been key to one of the largest single sales in the company’s history at over $20,000,000!

He resides in sunny Brevard County, Florida, alongside a beautiful family – with a wife of 42 years, 7 children, and 17 grandchildren!

Surry County Ranger, an experienced member of the North Carolina Forest Service, had our BK Radio® that was burned over while completing a burn out on the six-acre Kudzu Creek wildfire in Surry County, NC. The BK Radio® was attached with the belt clip to the outside of the radio harness. There was an additional 800 MHz radio that was in the radio harness. At the time, the radio harness was for a single radio, but two radios were being carried. The 800 MHz radio is used to talk to the local county fire departments and the BK P150 is used to talk to NCFS personnel.

While doing burn out operations, the BK P150 radio unknowingly came loose from the radio harness and fell to the ground! Rangers searched the area and found the missing radio.

Unfortunately, the area had been burned over and the radio case was melted significantly. The BK Radio® was still powered on and working fine. The Ranger used the radio for the rest of the day, without any issues! The display is still readable, and all of the controls still function as it should. Other than the battery being fused to the case and melted, it could still be used. The build quality of the BK KNG series is impressive. This was a particularly hot fire due to the fuel loading and the radio looks like it was downrange of a bomb test.

“I should note that Surry County has had many large wildfires in the past. Due to rural, remote, and rough mountain terrain, fires have the potential to expand into a large project fire quickly. A strong, initial attack, good planning, and strong fire agency relationships have helped this county keep fires under control quickly. Even if this fire had grown larger that day, it was still a comfort to know that this radio was still working fine.

NCFS has since obtained a dual-radio harness.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant meets the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations. The goal of this grant is to provide firefighters and first responders with updated equipment, gear, radios, training, and emergency vehicles to better protect themselves and the community. The AFG assists over 2,000 fire departments nationwide each year, with grants reaching over $3,000,000 for personal protective equipment, and gear that may be otherwise unattainable by its recipients.

The AFG will be launching a new system, the Grant Outcomes (GO) system, for its 2019 application. This new system is meant to streamline the application process with a more user-friendly interface. This interface will require that the information entered matches your SAM and DUNS information, including your grant’s point of contact.

The 2019 cycle is projected to begin in the late summer or early fall season. We encourage all of our partners in fire and public safety to assess the needs of their department, obtain estimates, and apply for this opportunity to enhance their fleet of equipment to better protect the public while keeping themselves safe. Memorial Day weekend, situated between rainy April and heated June can range greatly in temperatures, although much of the time it’s on the warmer side. Heat stroke can happen to the healthiest of individuals and is often exacerbated by standing still for a length of time in direct or indirect sunlight, without the reprieve of a breeze.
